KIARA DOWNHILL DOMINATION
RACE SERIES II - 27TH APRIL 2008
The race series, a grassroots initiated event, will be concentrated in Bukit Kiara and will utilize existing and newly purpose built tracks on the hill. A 2.2 km track lined with obstacles varying from gap jumps to step ups, log jumps, off - camber sections, rocky and rooty sections, 9 foot drops, wall rides, high speed berms… you name it and it will all be faced by the competitors. It is not a sport for the faint hearted.
This series was introduced to nurture and develop this extreme and athletic sport where support for the sport is very scarce and races in Malaysia few and far between. By organizing a 5 race series, we are able to allow riders and enthusiast to develop their skills and challenge their counterparts from Indonesia, Germany, Singapore and Thailand. We have given, the enthusiasts and youth, something to look forward to and use their time in a more effective, healthy and constructive manner. Top quality competitors from all over Malaysia, Germany, Indonesia and Singapore are expected to race in the series. In the last race held on the 28th February 2008, we were able to attract racers from Singapore, Germany and Indonesia to participate and achieved the highest recorded number of registered races, 89 riders, in a Malaysian downhill event. We attracted interests from many photographic clubs, TV3 coverage and other publications. Approximately 200 – 300 spectators lined the race track and the finish line to watch the exciting climax as the faster riders slowly comes down ad breakneck speeds. It was a resounding success.
A sport governed by the Union Cycliste Internationale, the governing body for World Cycling who also organizes the Nissan World Cup Downhill Series held annually at 5-7 venues.
The Kiara Downhill Domination Series is the brainchild of freeridemalaysia.com, a club/group of enthusiastic mountain bikers who seek to nurture, develop and promote the sport of mountain bike (“mtb”) Freeride and Downhill mtb racing in Malaysia. This event is also supported by Trail Association of Kuala Lumpur & Selangor (“TRAKS”) and DBKL.
